We are seeking an experienced Networking Technician to support the school’s network infrastructure, ensuring reliable, secure and high-performing connectivity across the campus. The postholder will manage day-to-day monitoring, troubleshooting and maintenance of wired and wireless networks, internet connectivity and associated network infrastructure.

Role Overview: The role is responsible for the day-to-day operation and maintenance of the school’s network infrastructure, including switches, access points, firewalls and internet connectivity. It supports network availability, performance and security, working with the IT team, ISPs and vendors to resolve issues and implement network improvements across the campus.

Qualifications and Experience
Essential
- Diploma or bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or a related field.
- 2–3 years’ experience in IT support, networking or a related technical role.
- CompTIA Network+, CCNA or equivalent qualification.
Skills & Competencies
- Good understanding of TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS and basic networking principles.
- Experience troubleshooting wired and wireless network connectivity.
- Good understanding of computer hardware and network-connected devices.
- Strong communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal.
- Experience with managed switches, firewalls and wireless networks.
- Experience working with enterprise or campus networks.
- Experience with network monitoring tools.
- Experience working with ISPs and external network vendors.

Key Responsibilities
1 Network Operations and Administration:
i. Administer and maintain the school’s wired and wireless network infrastructure.
ii. Configure, monitor and troubleshoot switches, wireless access points, routers, firewalls and other network equipment.
iii. Support network services including TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS and VLANs.
iv. Maintain reliable network connectivity across classrooms, offices, boarding areas and other campus facilities.
v. Monitor network performance and identify potential reliability, performance or capacity issues.
vi. Maintain accurate records of network equipment, configurations and locations.
vii Maintain reliable connectivity across classrooms, offices, boarding areas and other campus facilities.
viii. Ensure network equipment is appropriately configured, labelled and maintained.
2 Network Troubleshooting and Incident Resolution:
i. Investigate and resolve network connectivity, performance and availability issues.
ii. Diagnose faults affecting wired and wireless connectivity.
iii. Troubleshoot issues involving switches, access points, firewalls, cabling and network services.
iv. Use appropriate diagnostic and monitoring tools to identify the cause of network problems.
v. Respond to network-related incidents raised through the IT helpdesk.
vi. Document findings, actions taken and resolutions within the helpdesk system.
vii. Escalate complex or major network incidents to the Network Specialist.
3 Internet, ISP and Network Security:
i. Monitor the school’s internet connectivity and investigate service interruptions.
ii. Carry out initial diagnostics for internet and WAN-related faults.
iii. Coordinate with internet service providers when external support is required and follow faults through to resolution.
iv. Maintain records of internet outages, service issues and ISP interventions.
v. Support the administration and maintenance of network firewalls and security controls.
vi. Assist with network segmentation, access controls and secure network configurations.
vii. Escalate suspected network security incidents through the appropriate channels.
viii. Support the implementation of network security improvements.
4 Network Infrastructure and Preventive Maintenance:
i. Maintain network cabinets, switches, patch panels, wireless access points, cabling and associated infrastructure.
ii. Support network installations, cabling, upgrades and infrastructure changes across the campus.
iii. Carry out routine checks and planned preventive maintenance of network equipment.
iv. Identify damaged, faulty or ageing network equipment and recommend replacement where required.
v. Ensure network equipment and cabling are properly organised, labelled and maintained.
vi. Test new or replacement network equipment before and after implementation.
vii. Maintain records of network maintenance activities and equipment condition.
5 CCTV and Security Infrastructure Support:
i. Provide technical coordination for CCTV-related faults where network connectivity or IT infrastructure may be involved.
ii. Carry out initial checks to determine whether CCTV issues relate to network connectivity, power, equipment or the wider CCTV system.
iii. Coordinate CCTV faults and maintenance requirements with the school’s contracted CCTV maintenance vendor.
iv. Escalate faults requiring specialist intervention to the contracted vendor and monitor progress through to resolution.
v. Coordinate access and site requirements with relevant staff and vendors for maintenance visits.
vi. Follow up outstanding CCTV faults, repairs and maintenance activities.
vii. Maintain records of CCTV faults, vendor visits, repairs, replacements and outstanding issues.
viii. Test CCTV connectivity and functionality following maintenance or repairs where required.
ix. Report recurring or significant CCTV issues to the IT Support Supervisor and Senior IT Support Officer.
6 Network Documentation and Asset Records:
i. Maintain accurate network diagrams and topology documentation.
ii. Document network configurations, IP addressing, VLANs and other relevant technical information.
iii. Maintain records of network equipment, locations and configurations.
iv. Ensure network equipment changes are reflected in technical documentation.
v. Provide asset information to the IT Support Technician for the central IT inventory.
vi. Maintain appropriate records of network changes, installations and upgrades.
7 Network Projects and Infrastructure Development:
i. Support network installations, upgrades and expansion projects.
ii. Assist with the planning and implementation of network improvements.
iii. Test new network equipment and services before implementation.
iv. Support the deployment of new wireless access points, switches and other network infrastructure.
v. Work with approved contractors and vendors during network projects.
vi. Assist with network capacity planning and infrastructure development.
vii. Ensure project changes are properly documented and handed over to the IT team.
8 General IT Support:
i. Participate in the school’s IT helpdesk and respond to network-related tickets.
ii. Provide general technical support where required.
iii. Assist with issues involving network-connected computers, printers, classroom technology and other devices.
iv. Escalate non-network issues to the appropriate technical arm.
v. Provide basic support for Microsoft 365, user accounts and endpoint-related issues.
vi. Provide hands-on technical support where required, particularly during periods of high demand or significant incidents.
